About this Workshop
The purpose of this workshop is to give school staff an awareness and understanding of Asperger's Syndrome in the school environment, including the academic aspect of school in the classroom and the social aspects in the playground, at lunchtime and in sports and games, looking at how Asperger's Syndrome affects a child diagnosed with the condition as well as those around them, including staff and other pupils. Though primarily aimed at teachers, content in this workshop is also relevant to non-teacing staff, including teaching assistants, school medical staff, lunchtime supervisors etc.

Importance of early diagnosis
Percetions of Asperger's Syndrome in the learning and social environments
Asperger's Syndrome learning styles in relation to strengths and weaknesses

Strategies and solutions to help a pupil with Asperger's Syndrome achieve academically and feel included socially
Outcomes
From this workshop, participants will:
Gain a stronger understanding of Asperger's Syndrome, including how it affects a pupil with the condition and those around them
Gain a stronger awareness and understanding of reasonable adjustments for academic and social purposes
Be able to help include an Asperger's Syndrome pupil in group and extra-curricula activities
Develop a flexible aproach to using any special interests to link in with different areas of the curriculum
