Asperger's Syndrome and Frontline Services
About this Workshop
An often neglected theme in relation to Asperger's Syndrome, since people with Asperger's Syndrome are likely to be service users of or involved in frontline services, the need for awareness of the condition can't be ignored. An awareness of Asperger's Syndrome within frontline services can make the diference in terms of people with the condition being able to access appropriate support and are treated fairly by services, as well as those seeking an Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis being able to access an assessment/diagnosis. Frontline services covers a broad spectrum including GP/Healthcare services, social services, the Police and Criminal Justice System, the legal profession and service industries (e.g. estate agents) for whom this workshop is relevant.
Themes Covered
As this workshop covers a broad spectrum, workshop content can be customised to meet the needs of the service/organisation interested, though issues often covered include:
Understanding how Asperger's Syndrome affects an individual with the condition in different situations (e.g. in a courtroom)
Understanding and interpreting communication in relation to Asperger's Syndrome (e.g. eye-contact, over-compliance when interviewed)
Understanding anxiety in relation to Asperger's Syndrome (e.g. pressure of making a decision)
