Asperger's Syndrome and Employment Workshop
About this Workshop
People with Asperger's Syndrome can make very good and valued employees in many different roles and across different sectors (public, private, third sector etc.) in relattion to the skills and abilities that their condition can present. However, many people with Asperger's Syndrome experience difficult being able to both obtain and maintain employment in relation to the social skills needed e.g. to negotiate job interviews, develop good working relations with colleagues etc. The purpose of this workshop is to raise awareness of Asperger's Syndrome within recruitment processes and workplaces. Though primarily aimed at managers from all sectors interested in employing people with Asperger's Syndrome, the workshop is also helpful collegues of an employee with Asperger's Syndrome as well as careers officers and employment support workers.

Understanding Asperger's Syndrome in the workplace, looking at how the condition affects the employee and their colleagues, including sensory issues (e.g. lighting, sound etc.)

Outcomes
From this workshop, participants will:
Gain a stronger understanding how Asperger's Syndrome in the recruitment processes and working environment
Develop an understanding of reasonable adjustments in the working environment and the recruitment process that may be needed
Develop a flexible approach to strengths and needs of an employee with Asperger's Syndrome, including in training situations
Develop a working environment inclusive to Asperger's Syndrome
Benefit from the skills and qualities that people with Asperger's Syndrome can bring to the workplace
